    Frequently asked questions

How do I find out if a Texas address has an HOA?

Type the street address into Texas HOA Check. It finds the property in the county appraisal district records, reads its subdivision from the legal description, and checks that subdivision against the management certificates HOAs file with the Texas Real Estate Commission.

    Which Texas counties are covered?

Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton and Ellis counties, about 2.2 million residential properties. More Dallas-Fort Worth counties are being added.

Where does the HOA information come from?

Texas law (Property Code Section 209.004) requires property owners associations to file a management certificate with the Texas Real Estate Commission. Texas HOA Check reads those certificates and joins them to public county appraisal district records.

If no HOA is found, does that mean the home has no HOA?

No. It means no HOA has registered with the state for that subdivision. An unregistered or voluntary association may still exist. Check the recorded deed restrictions or ask the title company.

Can a title company or realtor rely on this?

It is a fast screening tool. For a closing, confirm with the title commitment, the recorded declaration and a resale certificate from the association.
